1/15 - 4:30pm - ZERO

The number zero will be popping up on thermometers across the area tonight as this cold trough sticks around. I think the inner-city areas will stay a touch above zero, but I think the rest of town will get down to zero or very close to it tonight. Wind chills will be near -10 (Wind Chill Advisory in effect), so bundle up tomorrow morning as you head out. Tomorrow's high will be a degree or two cooler than today, so we should end up around 16 by the afternoon.

A warmer weekend (if you want to call this warmer) is in store, with the possibility of barely getting above freezing. It still looks good for a few flurries on Sunday morning, but I think we'll be moisture starved for at least the early part of next week. Warmer temperatures should return by that point as well.

Keep those hats and gloves on!

Ryan -- I just heard that the City has issued a weather advisory asking that all citizens stay home until after 9 a.m. tomorrow morning. I can't seem to confirm it on line. Do you know? Thanks.

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Advisory until 9am. tomorrow, but I haven't heard anything from Lou. Metro yet. Here's what the NWS says:

A WIND CHILL ADVISORY MEANS THAT VERY COLD AIR AND WINDS WILL
COMBINE TO GENERATE LOW WIND CHILLS. THIS WILL RESULT IN FROST
BITE IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN. IF YOU MUST VENTURE OUTDOORS
DRESS WARMLY AND AVOID EXPOSURE TO SKIN. MAKE SURE CHILDREN AND
PETS ARE ESPECIALLY PROTECTED.

As far as JCPS goes, many school districts are delaying tomorrow already, including ones just across the river. I don't know if JCPS will actually delay or not, but it's certainly a possibility. As always, check the news before you head out in the morning.

Don't think frostbite will be a problem. Even the NWS is going against their own products and hyping. Yes, if you venture outside stark raving naked tonight/tomorrow AM you might get forstbite. That's what the advisory should read. However, sane people, who wear jackets when it gets cold should live to see the weekend. Insert lots of sarcasm with this post. I hope JCPS keeps up the good work and school runs on time.

Yeah, frostbite *is* a pretty serious concern when the temps get in the teens and lower.

Growing up in northern Indiana will teach you a thing or two about frostbite. It's nothing to mess around with.
