1/25 - 8:30pm - Quick Snow Forecast Update

The models have been going a bit to the north with this system over the course of today, meaning we'll see some sleet and maybe freezing rain. We're still looking good for 5 inches or so, but the amount of ice on top of that is increasing with each model run. The heaviest snow will fall just to our north in Indiana, with 8 or more inches there. If we start seeing colder temperatures at 850mb in the model runs tomorrow, we're in for some heavier snow. For now, I think this will be a moderate snow event tomorrow night with an icy mess on top by Tuesday afternoon. We're still on for a little bit of snow on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning as well, so an inch or two could be appended on to the current 5 inch estimate. There's still plenty of time for things to shift tomorrow, so keep up to date!

Will the ice everyone is projecting make it worse for the roads and more likely for a school closure. Please give us your JCPS school closing and delay prediction for the week.
Thanks

The ice will make things worse, but we'll have to see what reality shows us on Tuesday. As far as JCPS... I think Tuesday will have a cancellation or a delay. Same goes for Wednesday as well. We could have a delay on Thursday, but I'm not sure.

Right now some of the side roads have a very small white blanket covering them so its further evidence that the snow will stick to the pavement.

Yes indeed... no problems with surface (road) temperatures expected for Monday night. It's those pesky 850mb temps that could give us the unwanted ice on Tuesday.

do you know what time this snow will start on monday.. when will the heaviest precip be?

This should start around midnight or so on Monday night. Heaviest snow should occur between then and sunrise.

It's still difficult to pin down exact times and totals at the moment. I'm thinking 5" from Monday night into Tuesday, with an appreciable amount of sleet or freezing rain on Tuesday afternoon. We could pick up another inch or so on Tuesday night. The grand total should be somewhere between 4 and 6 inches for the Metro, but it's still very much subject to change. I'll have a video update tomorrow evening if this storm still looks potent.
