2/5 - 10:30pm - Dense Fog Tonight

Dense fog is already beginning to develop across North Mississippi and West Tennessee as temperatures fall for the overnight hours. A Dense Fog Advisory (see right image) has just been issued for the entire region until 9am CST since visibility could drop below a quarter mile at times. Please be careful as you're out and about in the early morning because this fog will make it difficult to see cars in front of you where it's the most dense. As we mix out the fog later on in the morning we should be left with a beautiful day and clear to partly cloudy skies. Highs tomorrow could reach into the upper 60's in a few spots! As we head into tomorrow night clouds will be on the increase but by Thursday rain moves in. The rain will stick around through some of Friday as well but at least we'll get a break by Saturday. 10/24 - 12:45pm - Foggy Start, Warm Day!

Some thick fog developed over portions of Mississippi this morning causing some visibility issues across the region. That has since cleared out and we're left with clear skies and temperatures that will be getting into the middle 70's this afternoon in Starkville. We'll warm it up to around 80 by Tuesday, but thunderstorms are on the way for Thursday and Friday as a cold front passes through on Thursday. Not expecting any severe weather at this point, but drier areas to our north will benefit from the rain greatly. Things should really cool down behind the front this weekend and skies will clear as well. Check out your detailed forecast in the video below:

5/30 - 12am CDT - Upslope Storms Part Deux Fell Flat

Our second attempt in chasing upslope storms within a week fell flat today. Like last time, the cap stayed on too tight and a layer of clouds and fog overspread our target area just as we thought storms would initiate. While we waited this afternoon just east of Cheyenne, WY, we ran into Mike Bettes and the Weather Channel's Great Tornado Hunt crew.

The very fog that moved into our target area only grew thicker as we moved into Nebraska to try and limit our driving time needed for tomorrow. At it's thickest point, the fog dropped visibility to around 300 feet as we headed east on I-80. We literally could not see the signs on the side of the road until they were just to the right of the edge of our hood.

Tomorrow could be a pretty big day in the Dakotas and Northern Nebraska. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Moderate Risk (45%) for portions of the area and expects a few significant tornadoes tomorrow afternoon before the storms merge into a linear line. I'll have an update tomorrow morning when we get on the road, which will be early so that we can get to our target on time.

10/9 - 4:30pm - Foggy!

It was surreal getting out of bed this morning and not being able to see the house across the street. The fog that developed last night stayed around until mid morning in some locations. There's only a few instances where I can remember fog being that thick at my house, so this was definitely out of the ordinary.

Temperatures are still expected to soar into the mid 80's by Sunday with a cool-down into the 70's expected by early next week. There's still a chance of showers in the forecast for Tuesday night into Wednesday.

The website is now working after being unreachable yesterday for a majority of the day. Hopefully the servers at my hosting service will stay afloat for a while.

10/8 - 7:15pm - Back in Town, Website Down

I checked my site and blog a couple times during my vacation to make sure they were in working condition. To my horror, my website was out when I got home from school this afternoon! After checking around, I found out that my hosting service is experiencing a miniature crisis with servers down at the moment. They're saying the problem should be fixed very soon. Let's hope so!

In other news, we've seen quite a bit of rain today. My gauge at home shows .63" of rain since midnight, with likely higher amounts around the area. Fog will be a problem tonight and early tomorrow morning with all this moist air dropping in temperature. We will soar into the 80's for the weekend after a day in the upper 70's tomorrow. A cool down to more seasonable temperatures will occur by early next week with a chance of rain thrown in late Tuesday into Wednesday.

4/21 - 4pm - Another Shaker, Nice Weather

I didn't feel this one, but this morning at 1:38am EDT we had another earthquake in Illinois. This one was a 4.5, so we felt it in Louisville. There was no damage here from it, but this is the sign times to come. It looks like we could be dealing with aftershocks for quite a while due to the persistence of activity. Hopefully we don't get anything worse than a 5.2 again, because it seems thats the damage threshold for this area and the threshold for many people's nerves around here. We're not known for many earthquakes like this, so this is very strange to many. I've read reports that these are both good or bad. They can be good by relieving the fault of its pressure, but bad by possibly waking up the New Madrid fault, just south of the area we're getting our quakes from. We don't want to hear from the New Madrid anytime soon...

At least the weather's good though! We're steady at 70 degrees in the suburbs right now and that pattern looks to continue until at least Thursday. Temperatures will be on the rise as well, but nothing above the lower 80's. We'll also have more fog tomorrow morning. There was so much fog this morning in my neighborhood that not even my fog lights on my car did any good. Be careful out there!
