6/8 - 8am - Bonnaroo!

The Bonnaroo Music Festival begins Thursday in Manchester, Tennessee and I'll be there! This year's lineup features Arcade Fire, My Morning Jacket, Primus, and many more world-class bands and performers. Going to Bonnaroo? I have the latest forecast! As usual it look likes this year's festival will be hot and humid, but even more so this year because a bit of ridging in the atmosphere will build up heat to above average levels. There will be daily rain chances from summertime pop-up thunderstorms that will form during the afternoon, so be ready to get wet. These storms will be slow movers, so there could be some mud issues at the festival site should one of these develop and sit over Manchester. Here's a detailed forecast:

Thursday91 / 69         Sunny           20% T-Storms
Friday:       92 / 67         Sunny           30% T-Storms
Saturday:   91 / 68     Mostly Sunny    20% T-Storms
Sunday:     91 / 69     Mostly Sunny    30% T-Storms

The good news is that this heat may give just a little bit next week as the ridge we're under right now across the Southeast begins to break-down and move off. I think most locations in Kentucky and Tennessee will at least get below 90 for highs next week. Daily heat-induced thunderstorm chances will stick around, which is normal for this time of year. Summer may still be a couple weeks away, but the summer weather pattern is already in place!

7/27 - 9am - It's Hot, But Not Here!

Phoenix, Arizona is under an Excessive Heat Warning today, with an expected high of 113 degrees. Tonight's low will be 89 degrees and the forecast for tomorrow calls for a high of around 114 degrees. Here's what the Phoenix National Weather Service office has to say:
TEMPERATURES RANGING 5 TO 8 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL ARE EXPECTED DURING THIS PERIOD. DAYTIME HIGHS OVER THE LOWER DESERTS WILL RANGE FROM 110 TO 117 DEGREES TODAY AND TUESDAY. ADDITIONALLY...TEMPERATURES ARE NOT EXPECTED TO COOL OFF OVERNIGHT...

That's hot weather no matter where you're from!

The jet stream may be putting Phoenix under a nice warm ridge right now, but it continues to put Louisville inside a trough with much cooler weather. We may reach 90 tomorrow for the first time this month tomorrow, but if we don't then we will continue the record-breaking cool weather around here. Here's a great link that the NWS in Louisville posted about our cool weather... click here.

Cooler weather continues in Louisville after Tuesday, with a daily storm chance for the rest of the week.

6/24 - 3pm - Storms Tomorrow, Maybe Severe?

We've yet to break 90 today, but we're almost there at 88 degrees. Temperatures around the area should top off at around 92 this afternoon. The SPC has issued a SLIGHT Risk (15%) for severe weather tomorrow for us and areas to our north:

Instability will be a little higher than usual tomorrow and there will be ample moisture to support thunderstorm development. I'm not impressed with winds coming off the models right now, so a tornado threat looks unlikely at this time. A bit of the jet stream will be coming down from the north tomorrow, so we'll have to see exactly what this does in the morning. If a line of storms forms and comes through here in the morning, our severe threat will be limited or nonexistent. If not, and we maintain clear skies throughout the morning and afternoon, then the severe threat would be elevated quite a bit. It should become clear by early tomorrow how bad the storms will be.

Friday and Saturday will be steamy again, but at least there won't be any rain. Thunderstorms could return to the area on Sunday, but the rest of next week looks pretty dry!

5/25 - 11:30am - Memorial Day

Cooking out today? Rain and thunderstorms shouldn't be too much of a problem because they're widely scattered and will continue to be like that throughout the day. Be aware that if you get under a thunderstorm this afternoon there could be some heavy rain. We should top out around 80 degrees this afternoon, but that could jump higher if we see some sun like yesterday. Tomorrow's and Wednesday's forecasts are about the same as today's, so we'll end up with a total of four days in a row with scattered storms and warm weather.

The rain should be out of here by Thursday as this low exits to our northeast and we'll be left with sunny skies and highs near 80.

Less than two weeks until my storm chasing trip! The weather has been terrible for storm chasing over the past few weeks and it doesn't look like this summer-like pattern will let up for at least another week or two. With that said, the jet stream looks like it might come south out of it's hiding place in Canada during the first or second week of June according to the long-range GFS. Let's hope so, because that would fire up the severe weather machine in the Plains!

12 days until storm chasing begins!
